BTHFT NHS Library Services can be used by all staff and students of the trust.

We offer a range of resources and services which support clinical practice, service development, and all aspects of learning, education and continued professional development.
Our primary function is to provide you with access to relevant, high quality information to support you to carry out your role effectively.

Opening Hours

The library is staffed Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Outside of these hours you have 24 hour access to the facilities and the Library, IT and Study Space areas can be accessed at any time using your ID badge/Swipe-card.

The library is a quiet working place; conducive for effective study. Please ensure you keep noise levels to a minimum when you are within the library area.

Access Online Resources (Databases, Journals, Clinical Summaries, Best Practice Guidelines etc)

All of our on-line information resources require you to sign-in using an NHS OpenAthens account. You can set this up quickly by completing the short on-line registration form . This single account will allow you to access all of the resources listed below:

Clinical Evidence Summaries – These resources provide current best evidence summaries. Use these if you require quick access to comprehensive yet concise, evidence based best practice on your chosen topic.

BMJ Best Practice – BMJ Best Practice takes you quickly and accurately to the latest evidence-based information, whenever and wherever you need it. Access step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention; updated daily with the latest evidence and expert opinion.

UptoDate – Evidence-based Clinical Decision Support. When you care for patients, the stakes are high and every decision counts. UptoDate provides you with the best evidence and clinical guidance at your fingertips to answer even the most complex questions with confidence.

Clinical Key Nursing – A research database that provides access to the full text of journals, textbooks and evidence summaries from the publisher Elsevier.

Clinical Skills – A collection of highly visual , evidence based procedures. Clinical skills has detailed documents to provide you with step by step guidance covering the most commonly used skills in healthcare. There’s a specific separate section for Healthcare Assistants covering all of the core skills required for the role.

Dynamic Health – Nursing information: Detailed information summaries covering topics relevant to nursing. Includes overviews of conditions, tests and lab results, detailed procedure and skills guides.

Royal Marsden Manual – Standard procedures and information from this well known text-book; providing guidance and step by step instructions for most common skills and processes.
